Lake Eyasi is a fascinating and relatively shallow saltwater lake located in the East African Rift Valley of Tanzania. It is situated at the southern end of the Serengeti ecosystem and covers an area of approximately 1,050 square kilometers (400 square miles). What makes Lake Eyasi particularly unique is its role as a seasonal habitat for the Hadza people, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in the world. The lake is surrounded by a diverse landscape, including lush wetlands, savannah, and rocky outcrops, making it a vital watering hole for both wildlife and local communities.
During the rainy season, Lake Eyasi expands significantly, attracting a rich variety of birdlife, including flamingos, storks, and pelicans. It is also home to a range of fish species and other aquatic life. The surrounding area offers a glimpse into the traditional lifestyles of the Hadza people, who rely on the lake's resources for their sustenance.
